Goethe Institut Irak and Institut français Erbil commissioned a group of students, including me, to make short GIF animations for their Instagram presence during the start of their project “Cultur Ensemble“. Culture Ensembles aim to foster German-French friendship and European cooperation. The purpose of the GIFs is to use them in Instagram stories when promoting a certain event of the Culture Ensemble. The first GIF with the two hands (one being German = Goethe Institut and one being blue = Institut français) holding the clapperboard would be used in context of a movie screening. The one with the hand assembling a collage that turns into a beating heart is to be used in the context of fine arts and the writing of “Hallo, mon ami” (a combination of German and French that translates to “Hello, my friend”) is to be used in the context of language. The last GIF is the citadel of Erbil, Irak. It is the historical city centre of Kurdistan. Once the light gets turned on, the citadel appears in green and blue, again the colors of the two institutes in combination to show German-French collaboration.
